For the latest installment in the Spotify Singles series, Arcade Fire have recorded their cover of John Lennon’s “Mind Games”. They’ve performed the cover live on numerous occasions and now the track is available to stream.
Having recently released their fifth album “Everything Now” to critical acclaim at the end of July, Arcade Fire recorded a new cover of John Lennon’s “Mind Games” along with a new live version of their album’s title track.
The band have previously covered the Lennon song on a number of occasions. Before taking the stage for their headline set at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago this summer, they covered “Mind Games” morphing it into Radiohead’s “Karma Police” and incorporating lyrics from David Bowie’s “Oh you pretty things”. It was a masterpiece.
Fans can now enjoy a recorded version of the cover of John Lennon’s 1973 original. Arcade Fire have stuck to the violin riff and strong bass-line and Win Butler’s Lennon-like vocals really shine through. Nothing can ever be better than Lennon’s original but the band committing the cover to tape reminds us how important his music has been for Arcade Fire and especially frontman, Win Butler. Listen to the two songs below.
