Radiohead and Hans Zimmer have teamed up together on a new piece of music for a prequel to BBC’s blockbuster documentary “Blue Planet II”. The new track will be an orchestral rework of an existing Radiohead song from 2011.
“The collaboration is simply mouthwatering”
Hearing Radiohead and Hans Zimmer in the same sentence is quite something. The new seven-part BBC series “Blue Planet II” will be getting a prequel featuring an Hans Zimmer-led orchestral reworking of Radiohead’s 2011 song “Bloom”. The exclusive track will be entitled “(ocean) bloom” and will be shown in a prequel to the blockbuster series which is due to be broadcast later this year.
Thom Yorke has recorded vocals for the new version and said the following about the collaboration:
“Bloom” was inspired by the original Blue Planet series, so it’s great to be able to come full circle with the song and reimagine it for this incredible landmark’s sequel.
Oscar-winning composer and producer Hans Zimmer, who also created the music for “Planet Earth II” said about “Kings of Limbs” single:
“Bloom” appears to have been written ahead of its time as it beautifully reflects the jaw-dropping lifeforms and seascapes viewers are introduced to in Blue Planet II.
The exciting collaboration will be revealed on 27th September as part of a 5 minute prequel to the documentary. To get you in the mood, dive into the original just below.
