Arcade Fire pre-Lollapalooza gig was a real crowd-pleaser

Ahead of their Lollapalooza performance last night in Chicago, Arcade Fire did an intimate gig in the city. The set included lives from their new album, “Everything Now” as well as an awesome cover of John Lennon’s “Mind Games” they had played earlier in the evening.

John Lennon, David Bowie and Radiohead in the same song

Before taking to the stage for their headline set at the Lollapalooza festival in Chicago last night, Arcade Fire performed an intimate pre-show gig at Chicago’s iconic Metro concert venue. Their set included the first ever live performances of songs from their new album, “Everything Now” which was released just a fortnight ago.

The highlight of the evening was their encore. The group covered John Lennon’s “Mind Games” for the first time. It might have been a little warm-up for their Lollapalooza headline set later that evening as they performed the masterpiece again at the end of their 18-song set.

A true tribute to John Lennon, vocalist Win Butler introduced the cover at the festival with the following:

“There’s so much f*****g poison in the air. We need love and peace. And we need it now!”

The band then went on to perform the most awesome cover. What begins as “Mind Games” morphs into Radiohead‘s “Karma Police” and goes on to incorporate lyrics from David Bowie’s “Oh you pretty things” before returning to the Lennon classic. It was a 10-minute masterpiece and it looks as if the crowd enjoyed every note of it. Take a look for yourself.

Don't miss Arcade Fire !
