After a patient four year wait, there’s some good news for Arctic Monkeys fans. The band have confirmed work on a new studio album is underway and should be released next year.
“If it isn’t, we’ve got problems”
It’s never Alex Turner that spills the beans. A few months ago, Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders told a fan at a gig that we’d be seeing a new album by the end of this year. This time, it’s the band’s bassist (and avid biker) Nick O’Malley who let the cat out of the bag in an interview for motorcycle magazine For the Ride.
O’Malley let news slip that the Arctic Monkeys started recording their sixth album earlier this month and it will be released sometime in 2018. He said, “If it isn’t [out by then], we’ve got problems.” The band’s frontman has been busy leading the other side of his double life playing guitar for The Last Shadow Puppets’ who released their latest album “Everything You’ve Come to Expect” last year. Drummer Matt Helders also had a side project last year performing on Iggy Pop’s “Post Pop Depression” album.
This year marks fifteen years since the Arctic Monkeys first formed. We’ve seen the band roll out five albums, each as different and brilliant as the previous. The material currently being recorded will therefore make their sixth record. The group have been on a hiatus of some sorts leaving fans spinning their last album “AM” on repeat for four years, so the new material will definitely be welcomed into open arms. We can’t wait to hear more about it.
