An ode to the Big Apple
With their new album “Songs of Experience” in the pipeline for a 1st December release, U2 released the new single “You’re The Best Thing About Me” at the beginning of the month. They’ve now unveiled the song’s accompanying video which sees the band sightseeing and exploring the streets of New York City. A serenade to the city that never sleeps, the clip culminates with Bono and his band singing to city’s night sky from a rooftop spot.
The Irish rockers have always had a soft spot for the city of New York. Their love affair began back in 1980 when they played their first gig across the pond at an inner city club. “You’re The Best Thing About Me” is a lyrical love letter to Bono’s wife and equally, “a visual tapestry of tribute to New York and a serenade to the city’s iconic symbols of American compassion and liberty”, the band told The New York Times. Bono also talked about the group’s delay in the album being released being due to recent political changes which led the band to question their music.
