It’s been four years since we last heard from them following the departure of founding member, Nick McCarthy. Franz Ferdinand have just made an explosive return sharing a bold new single, an album announcement and dates for a massive world tour.
Everyone’s favourite Scottish rock band from the 2000s is back. Having sharing a short snippet of new music with fans this week, Franz Ferdinand have released their first new single since the release of their fourth album, “Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action”, in 2013. “Always Ascending” is the title track of their upcoming album which is due to be released on 9th February.
It’s a bold sound that sees the quintet explore more experimental disco-rock than we’ve heard from them before. The song develops into a synth-heavy funk. Recorded with French producer Philippe Zdar (Phoenix and Beastie Boys) in London and Paris, frontman Alex Kapranos said the band wanted to give the new album both a “futuristic and naturalistic” vibe.
And because a comeback isn’t really a comeback without a tour, Franz Ferdinand released dates for an epic world tour. They will touch down in the UK in mid-February with eight dates up and down the country. Get yourselves organised for next Friday morning when the tickets go on sale.
