For the first time ever, electronic music will be celebrated as it should be. At the end of September, the awards ceremony will feature a line-up uniting legends of the electronic scene .
This isn’t the Grammys or the VMAs. It’s an awards ceremony dedicated to the beat and nothing else. There won’t be any acceptance speeches and there are no seats. So put on your boogie shoes and expect a party. Electronic music has been around since the disco age of the 70s, house music of the 80s and techno music more recently. The first ever Electronic Music Awards will celebrate the biggest and brightest names on the dance music scene.
Taking place on 21st September, the ceremony will be broadcast live on Twitter as it takes place at the Willow Studios in downtown Los Angeles. Legends of the electronic music scene are scheduled to perform alongside upcoming and nominated artists. Amongst the line-up are Goldfish, Moby, Arbital and Autograf.
The Awards are split into the following 11 categories: Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Record of the Year, Remix of the Year, Festival of the Year, Producer of the Year, Club of the Year, Radio show of the Year, New Artist of the Year, DJ of the Year and Live Act of the Year. Featuring on the list of nominations are the likes of Bonobo, Flume, Justice, Chainsmokers and Annie Mac as well as Tomorrowland Festival, Fabric nightclub in London and the acclaimed producer, Odesza. It’s quite a list.
Hosting the evening is the founder of Billboard’s dance/electronic music department, Matt Medved, and the nominees and winners are voted on by 67 members who have been selected to represent all aspects of the electronic music community.
A definite date for your diaries.
